ArcPad® software is an easy-to-use, lightweight solution for mobile mapping and GIS applications.

ArcPad enhances portable touch screen computers with intuitive mapping,
GIS, and GPS functionality. ArcPad makes field data collection fast
and easy, improves data accuracy, and provides immediate data
availability and validation.
Access Your Data via Wireless Technology
ArcPad downloads an image or map layer via wireless technology. ArcPad
can act as a client to ArcIMS, ESRI's Internet Mapping and GIS software
. Data is downloaded to ArcPad using a TCP/IP connection, such as a
wireless LAN, cellular phone, or a wireless modem. Features can be
readily identified on the image layer.
Leverage Your GIS
ArcPad leverages existing mapping and GIS software systems and
databases. There is no need to convert data to unique portable formats.
When a user is finished editing data in the field, changes and
additions can be uploaded into the master database in the office.
ArcPad supports a multilayer environment with industry-standard vector
map and raster image display that includes aerial photos and satellite
imagery. Moreover, ArcPad allows users to create custom input forms
from their existing GIS database for use in the field.
GPS—Enable Your GIS
ArcPad can also be integrated with an optional global positioning
system (GPS) or differential global positioning system (DGPS). ArcPad
enhances GPS technology by limiting position information display not
to numerical coordinates but rather to a moving crosshair on an actual
map. This enables users to view their exact location in the context of
a map.

ArcPad is the low-cost solution for data capture projects in the field.
The ability to compare data directly to geographic features in the
real world adds a deeper sense of reality to the GIS database. ArcPad
enables specialized mapping and data collection in a wide range of
industries and applications including power pole maintenance and meter
reading for utility companies, vehicle tracking, mineral exploration,
habitat studies, crop management, and property damage assessment.
